PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method and an equipment for picture communication which automatically acquire the holding capability on the reception side to transmit image data in accordance with this holding capability. SOLUTION: Information indicating whether a communication equipment in the transmission destination has the internet facsimile function or not, equipment holding capability information, etc., are acquired by a line control part 17. These acquired information are preserved in a reception-side information table 33. A network control part 19 cooperates with a reception-side information discrimination part 32, a decision part 34, and the reception-side information table 33 to transmit image data on the basis of equipment holding capability information on the reception side.
