PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron gun for a color cathode ray tube forming a uniform beam spot over the whole screen by optimizing a prefocus lens in vertical direction and horizontal direction, separately. SOLUTION: This electron gun for an in-line color cathode ray tube has a tripolar part comprising a cathode, a first electrode G1, and a second electrode G2, a main lens part having a third electrode G3 and a final acceleration electrode G4. In this case, the gun also has a first auxiliary electrode G25 having a plurality of slots corresponding to an electron beam passage hole of the second electrode G2 and extending to the first direction or the second direction perpendicular to the first one and connected to one side of the second electrode G2 facing the first electrode G1, and a second auxiliary electrode G26 having a plurality of slots corresponding to an electron beam pass hole of the second electrode G2 and extending to the first direction or the second direction perpendicular to the first one, and connected to the other side of the second electrode G2 facing the third electrode G3.
