PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the change in fog during preservation and the change in photographic properties due to stress by incorporating photosensitive silver halide grains having a specified average silver iodide content subjected to reduction sensitization in the presence of a specified compound. SOLUTION: The silver halide photographic emulsion contains photosensitive silver halide grains having 7-20 mol% average silver iodide content subjected to reduction sensitization in the presence of at least one compound of formula I or II. In the formulae I and II, X and Y are each sulfo, its salt or H but at least one of X and Y is sulfo or its salt. The preferred average silver iodide content is 10-20 mol%, in particular 12-20 mol%. The silver halide grains preferably have a phase having such a high silver iodide content as 10-30 mol% in the grains. The preferred silver iodide content of the phase is 10-20 mol%, in particular 10-15 mol%.
