PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium secondary battery excellent in charge/discharge characteristics by improving an active material used for a positive or negative electrode of the lithium secondary battery. SOLUTION: In this lithium secondary battery provided with positive and negative electrodes 1 and 2 and a nonaqueous electrolyte, an active material of the positive and negative electrodes 1 and 2 is used with composite oxides having a rutile type crystal structure expressed by a formula MXW1-XOY or these containing Li. In the formula, M is at least one kind of metallic element selected from Cu, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co and Ni and satisfies 0<X<=0.46, 1.5<=Y<=2.5. |
