PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform color conversion so as to maintain sufficiently high lightness and chroma of output equipment by obtaining an even rate of compression for an input color space as a whole from each hue, performing compression of an input color reproduction space in a luminance chrominance space, and coordinating a color of the compressed input color to an output color reproduction range. SOLUTION: In a luminance chrominance space conversion means 2, luminance chrominances (Li, ai, and bi) are replaced by using image input data 1 (Ri, Gi and Bi). The image input data 1 replaced by an Lab value are converted into Lab values (Lc, ac and be) which are compressed by an input color reproduction range compressing means 3 by using a rate of compression decided by a compression rate/compression coefficient decision means 9. In a color reproduction range mapping means 4, a combination of CMYK which generates an output color closest to the Lab value of the compressed image input data 1 is replaced. Thus, coordination of an input color and an output color is applied and output device signals 5 (C, M, Y and K) are obtained.
