PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To flexibly generate a rhythm pattern with a specified feature and rhythm patterns which are similar and contradictory to an inputted motif rhythm pattern with simple constitution. SOLUTION: The rhythm pattern generating device previously adds feature data representing musical features to corresponding rhythm patterns, generates a rhythm pattern at random (C2) when a feature of a rhythm pattern is specified (C1), retrieves the rhythm pattern matching the generated rhythm pattern from plural rhythm patterns (C3), and generates the corresponding rhythm pattern (C6) according to the matching (C5) between the specified feature data (C4) corresponding to the retrieved rhythm pattern and the specified feature. Another rhythm pattern generating device is constituted so as to add similar and contradictory rhythm patterns to the respective rhythm patterns and is then able to generate rhythm patterns which are similar and contradictory to an inputted motif rhythm pattern.
