PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and economical optical branching unit facilitating the work of making branch connections, maintenance and inspection work and the like, and a light distribution panel with the unit mounted thereon. SOLUTION: A multiconductor line-wire optical cable has its conductors previously separated from one another and connected to an optical adapter 6 and an optical branching unit 25 having integrated therewith an extra length storage part 16 storing the extra conductor length required for connection with the line-wire optical cable is used to eliminate the need for an FO cord that is conventionally used for connection with a line-wire-side terminating cable, so as to enhance profitability. Since the FO cord is thick with a structure in which a tape fiber conductor is covered with a protective tube, the protective tube needs to be peeled away for connecting work. Since the need for the FO cord is eliminated, productivity is enhanced and an extra length storage space and a wiring space are greatly reduced for compact size.
