PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method and device for replacing a gas meter capable of performing the work of replacing the gas meter only by outdoor operation. SOLUTION: A gas meter replacing device 20 includes and is constituted of an inner bag capable of airtightiy housing an existing gas meter 24 and a newly provided gas meter 25, an outer bag 22, and a sealing member to seal the opening parts of the inner bag 21 and the outer bag 22 airtightly. A pump 26 to discharge a gas in the inner bag 21 and a pressure gage 27 to measure the pressure of the inside of the inner bag 21 are connected to the inner bag 21. As gloves 28 are provided for the inner bag 21, it is possible to perform the work of replacing the existing gas meter 24 with the newly provided gas meter 25 inside the airtight inner bag 21. In addition, it is possible to purge air by once feeding a gas into the newly provided gas meter 25 in the inner bag 21 and to perform inspection for gas leakage as well through the use of the pressure gage 27.
