PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect a furnace chamber against corrosion de to gas from an article to be heat treated and to introduce the gas well to a burner by heating the article in a muffle disposed in the furnace chamber by means of a negative pressure combustion radiation heating pipe. SOLUTION: Fuel and air fed from the outer end of the inner tube of a negative pressure combustion radiation heating pipe 7 are combusted in the inner tube and the combustion gas is discharged from an exhaust opening through the outer tube to the atmosphere by a negative pressure acting at the exhaust opening. An article 9 to be processed being carried on a conveyor 6 through a muffle 5 is heated by the heating pipe 7 and organic evaporation substance evaporated and freed from the article 9 is passed through an opening 8 and a furnace chamber 4 and sucked into the heating pipe 7 where it is combusted or thermally decomposed and discharged into the atmosphere from the exhaust opening of the heating pipe. As a secondary effect, organic substances are combusted in the furnace 4 and utilized as a heat source for heating the article.
