PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber coil wound around a small diameter reel excellent in transmission characteristic having suppressed polarization mode dispersion, by reducing winding tension and side pressure of an optical fiber by removing a body portion of the reel. SOLUTION: A reel 10, usually comprises a cylindrical body portion 10a with 40-80 mm diameter and 8-60 mm height and a pair of doughnut-type collar parts 10b with 100-200 mm outer diameter provided on the upper and lower bottoms of a cylinder. The body portion 10a and collar parts 10b in the reel 10 are mutually easily removed. An optical fiber is wound sequentially from one end of it, about the body portion 10a of the reel 10, and entire length is wound. After the optical fiber has been wound in the reel 10, the body portion 10a is removed from the reel 10. Therefore, winding tension and side pressure of the coil-shaped optical fiber wound in the reel 10 can be reduced by removing the body portion 10a of the reel 10. |
