PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat-resistant plastic optical fiber having sufficient transmission performance and good heat resistance, by surrounding a core made of a transparent core resin with glass transition point higher than a specific temperature with a specific sheath resin, and coating the periphery of it with a specific protective layer. SOLUTION: A core 1 made of a transparent core resin with glass transition point higher than 140 deg.C is surrounded by a sheath 2 made of a sheath resin containing 40-62 mol% vinylidene fluoride component, 28-40 mol% tetrafluoroethylene component, 8-22 mol% hexafluoropropane component, with Shore D hardness (ASTM D2240) at 23 deg.C 35-45. Its periphery is coated with a 50-700μm thick protective layer 3 composed of vinylindene fluoride-based resin with melting point higher than 150 deg.C and a nylon 12 resin. Thus, this optical fiber is provided with sufficient transmission performance and heat resistance, and can be used for a long time in high reliability even under an environment at high temperature and high humidity. |
