PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically connect divided and read document images. SOLUTION: A character area detection part 14 detects the character area of the divided and read two document images and a character recognition part 22 recognizes characters inside the character area and obtains character codes. An overlap position detection part 23 compares the position, size and character code of the character area of the two document images and outputs the position of the row image of a high matching degree to an image connection part as an overlap position. The image connection part 16 connects the two document images at the overlap position.
