PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly solve the shortage of storage capacity. SOLUTION: A storage device register 13 distinguishes to which computer 1 or 2 stored information belongs for each storage area of an external storage device 12. A using state register 16 corresponds to individual bits of the register 13 and stores information as to whether each determined storage area in the device 12 has been used or not in each storage area. When the storage capacity of the device 12 is in short, a CPU 11 issues an instruction for checking the using state of an external storage device 22 in the computer 2 to an external access circuit 15. The circuit 15 transmits the instruction to the computer 2. An external access circuit 25 checks a using state register 26, and when there is free storage capacity, turns the bits in the register 26 to a using state and the bits of a storage device register 23 are changed to the display of the computer 1.
