A method and apparatus for installing pipeline weights includes lifting arms. Each lifting arm has a first end and a second end. In use, a lifting line is attached at the first end of each of the lifting arms. A transverse weight bearing support member is positioned at the second end of each of the lifting arms. A lifting hook of a pipeline weight is engaged to hold the pipeline weight in place on the support member. Each lifting arm suspends one half of the pipeline weight in position on opposed sides of a pipe, which the two halves are bolted together.
