Silylated fluorinated compounds are prepared by electrolysis of a polyhalogenated or fluorinated carbonylated substrate in the presence of a silylating agent. An electrolytic process for the silylation of a polyhalogenated or fluorinated carbonylated substrate is claimed. The substrate is electrolyzed using metallic consumable or soluble anode(s) in an aprotic medium containing (a) and electrolyte support and (b) a silylating agent. The halogenated substrate conforms to the general formula (II) : Z-C-XX<1>-C=O(R4) (II) X, X<1> = halo; Z = halo, -CnF2n + 1(optionally substituted by 1-4C alkyl) or 1-10C alkyl; n = 1-7; R4 = H, 1-6C alkyl(preferably 1-4C alkyl), 3-8C cycloalkyl, 5-12C aryl, 1-12C aralkyl, A(R5)p, R6COOR7, R6CHO or R6N(R7)2; p = 1 or 2; A = O, S or N; provided that A is O or S when p is 1, and that A is N when p is 2 R5 = H, 1-4C alkyl, 3-8C cycloalkyl, 5-12C aryl, 1-12C aralkyl or Si(R'1)(R'2)(R'3) R'1, R'2, R'3 = 1-10C hydrocarbyl, preferably 1-6C hydrocarbyl (optionally substituted) R6 = single bond or 1-6C divalent hydrocarbyl; and R7 = H or 1-5C alkyl. |
