BUFFER MANAGING METHOD FOR AAL5 CONNECTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize a cell buffer queue in an ATM exchange device and the assembly buffer of the ATM adaptation layer type 5 (AAL5) frame of an end terminal by discarding a received cell when a cell passage count value for AAL5 frame exceeds a cell threshold for AAL5 frame. SOLUTION: When the received cell is a leading or continuous cell of an AAL5 frame and a cell passage counter 32 for AAL5 frame, and a cell threshold 33 for AAL5 frame are the same value, the final cell of the AAL5 frame is generated by a final cell control part 34 and outputted to a line interface part 21 layer, and the received cell is discarded by a control part 31. When the cell passage counter 32 for AAL5 frame exceeds the cell threshold 33 for AAL5 frame, the received cell is discarded by the control part 31. Thus, the AAL5 frame assembly buffer in the end terminal and the cell buffer in the ATM exchange device can be effectively utilized.
