PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To match image directions of the front side and rear side of an original, while saving labor for designating how to set the original to a user by discriminating how to set the original (the direction of images on the original) in accordance with a detected original size. SOLUTION: A user designates whether an original 3 is lengthwise binding or breadthwise binding. At paper feeding, a main scanning width X and a sub- scanning length Y of the original 3 are detected and preserved by a width sensor 18 and an original length sensor 19. Next, the surface of the original 3 is scanned by an image reader 10, and images on the surface are not rotated full but are stored in an SAF 25. Then, the original 3 is inverted and paper is supplied onto contact glass 9 again. In that case, the preserved main scanning width X and sub-scanning length Y are compared and when the main scanning width X is greater (X>Y), 'lateral setting' is regarded, and in the case of lengthwise binding at such a time, read images (image data) are transferred to the SAF 25 and stored without being rotated but in the case of breadthwise binding, read images are rotated by 180 deg., transferred to the SAF 25, and stored. |
