PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable magnetic field magnet which has a sufficiently strong magnetic field and can easily adjust the magnetic field, without changing a magnetic field distribution. SOLUTION: This magnet has a pair of iron 1 and 2 opposed to each other with a magnetic field space F provided therebetween and also has permanent magnets 3, 4, 5 and 6 arranged adjacent to the opposing iron cores. The pair of iron cores 1 and 2 and permanent magnets 3 to 6 which are connected in series form a magnetic circuit. Adjusting gaps G1 and G2 are provided in the magnetic circuit and by causing the magnitude of the adjusting gaps change the magnetic field in the field space F is adjusted.
