Two observation devices having sample position specifying means and capable of quickly and easily transforming position-specifying coordinates. A coordinate transforming method comprising the steps of providing at least three observing points in arbitrary positions, installing coordinate setting samples, provided with markers for setting relative positions between samples and a sample table, on the sample table of the first observation device and in the second observation device so as to read the coordinates of the observing points, setting an arbitrary point of the above observing points as a temporary origin, correcting the coordinates of the other two points to coordinates based on the temporary origin, and substituting the resultant coordinates into the equations (1) xn = aXn + bYn, yn = cXn + dYn... to calculate a, b, c, and d and determine coordinate transformation equations.
