The engine has a piston (2) with a cavity (8) which can be supplied with coolant. The coolant supply device includes an outer tube (14) and an inner tube (15) able to move in it telescopically. There is an annular cavity (20) between a fixed bottom (16) serving both tubes, limited by a sealing piston (19). The annular cavity becomes shorter during the working stroke of the piston.
