The appliance has an air guide housing (1) with a reactor (4) containing an adsorbent (5) for contaminants in the air. A first control flap (8) is located near the housing intake (2) to close one of two air flow paths (10,10') between housing intake and outlet (3) when in end positions (I). A second control flap is located on the opposite side of the reactor, to close the flow path of the reactor and form a residual profile (11) for overflow during desorption operation. An air outlet aperture (7) between first control flap and reactor is opened during desorption by a locking member (6) coupled to both control flaps.
