JOINT PROSTHESIS ASSEMBLY AND METHOD FOR INSTALLING SAME

A joint prosthesis assembly (54) includes a stem (34) for disposition in a canal of a first bone constituting a first portion of the joint, a neck (44) fixed to the stem (34), a collar (40) fixed on the neck (44) having a peripheral groove (76), and an articulating head (46) fixed on the neck (44). The assembly further includes a cup for disposition in a second bone constituting a second portion of the joint, an insert (70) disposed in the cup (46) to provide an interior lining for the cup (46), and the insert (70) having a peripheral groove (72) therein. A sleeve-shaped membrane (60) is provided with a first O-ring (62) fixed thereto at a first end thereof for disposition in the insert groove (72), and a second O-ring (64) fixed thereto at a second end thereof for disposition in the collar groove (76). The membrane is thereby disposed to capture particulate debris generated by the articulating head in the insert (70). There is further contemplated a method for installing the assembly.
