The burner for a heat generating device comprises a spin-producing device (100) for the air required for combustion. This is fitted with fuel dispensers and is connected to a mixing tube (220). This in turn is connected to a combustion chamber (30).The novelty is that the radius of the boundary of the mixing tube can be varied. In particular it can be made ellipsoidal, so that an ellipsoidal flame is produced
