The unit gantry (1) can be moved by a motorized drive (8) on rollers (6) running on rails (7). After the examination couch (9) has been lined up with the gantry the latter is moved from its parking position until the patient is in the correct position for a radiograph to be taken. The couch is cantilevered off a support (12) fitted with rollers (11) which enable it to be aligned other than with its axis in line with the unit axis.
