During operation of a high-temperature fuel cell (1) corrosion to the interconnector on the anode side is a problem. The inventive method substantially avoids this problem by using at least two metallic functional layers (8, 9) which are applied one on top of the other to the interconnecto r (2). The lower functional layer (9) contains copper and the upper functional layer (8) contains nickel. Functional layers (8, 9) of this type establish a potential barrier for oxygen ions with respect to the interconnector (2).
