1474412 Steam reforming hydrocarbons MITSUI SHIPBUILDING & ENG CO Ltd 16 April 1974 [13 April 1973] 16550/74 Heading C5E [Also in Division B1] Heavy hydrocarbons (i.e. having a boiling point of not less than 300‹ C., a specific gravity of not less than 0À85 and a viscosity at 50‹ C. of not less than 30 centistokes) are gasified by reaction with steam at 700-1000‹ C. using a catalyst prepared by mixing, kneading and calcining at substantially 1700‹ C. calcium oxide with 5-20% wt.iron sesquioxide, 10-30% wt.of silicon oxide and, optionally, substantially 76% wt. of magnesium oxide (the percentage being based on the weight of calcium oxide). The hydrocarbon feed may contain sulphur impurities, e.g. an atmospheric distillation residue or reduced pressure residue. The gasification may be carried out in a fluidized bed at substantially atmospheric pressure with a steam/oil weight ratio of 3À0. |
