A closed and filled container has a mouth opening (6) on a body member (2) sealed by a closure (10). To reduce the volume of the headspace (L) which is defined within the mouth opening between the level of the contained beer (12) and the closure (10), the closure is appropriately shaped. For example, the closure may be inwardly domed (14) such that the volume of the headspace is correspondingly reduced. The volume of air, and hence of oxygen, in contact with the beer (12) in the container is reduced by this means, and there is a corresponding improvement in the shelf life of the beer (12).
|
