摘要 Production of reflective pigments is carried out by continuous simultaneous vapor deposition of applied highly-refractive transparent layer and light-absorbing metal. The layer applied is transparent with a set refractive index exceeding 1.8, mixed with a fixed proportion of light-absorbing metal(s) in the same vapor deposition process. Independent claims are included for: (1) a plant for carrying out the above process; (2) the produced pigment. Preferred features: The reflective pigment produced, has an optical transmissivity of less than 20% in the visible waveband. The colored layer(s) are deposited on a layer of low refractive index, at least layer one being highly-refractive and transparent. The layer of low refractivity has a refractive index up to 1.7, that of the transparent material being 1.9 or more. The light-absorbing metal is present in a mole ratio of 1-50% with the transparent material, vaporized simultaneously under vacuum. The vapor streams from two separate sources are overlapped. The refractive layer (1) is applied on one or both sides of the reflective layer (2) or that of low refractive index. Applied to both, its thicknesses may differ. The layers can be vaporized onto a surrounding substrate. Between substrate and layers, there is a parting agent. A continuously-operating process forms the deposits on a continuous band, passed in and out through vacuum locks. At least three layers alternate in succession, individually 30-500 nm thick. Oxidative and thermal treatment follow deposition.
