The method involves measuring the sound generated by the processing in the region of interaction of a tool (4) and the workpiece (2,3). A desired sound level against time is determined for the process and is compared with an actual sound level. The desired and actual sound levels are compared (9) depending on frequency. A band of desired values is determined and any actual outside the band triggers a signal. Independent claims are also included for the following: an arrangement for processing a workpiece.
