The head restraint has a support (4) for its axial displacement relative to a seat backrest. The support is held in a joint (6), which is locked when the head restraint (2) is in use position, and unlocked when it is in fold-down position. The joint is unlocked by pushing the head restraint upwards. When in fold-down position, the head restraint is loaded by a torque, generated by a spring (11). The support may be locked in different height positions relative to the backrest, by a locking device released by an actuator element.
