Cationic nitrile compounds of formula (I) are used to improve the hardness and disintegration properties of detergent formed bodies. Detergent formed bodies, which are composed of compressed, particulate detergent, comprise: (a) bleach; (b) one or more bleach activators, including a cationic nitrile compound of formula R<2>-N(R<1>)(R<3>)-CH2-CN X- (I); and optionally (c) other detergent components. R<1> = H, Me, 2-24C alkyl or 2-24C alkenyl (optionally substituted by Cl, Br, OH, NH2 or CN); or 1-24C alkyl-aryl or 2-24C alkenyl-aryl (optionally ring substituted by further substituents); R<2>, R<3> = CH2CN, Me, Et, CH2CH2Me, CHMe2, CH2OH, CH2CH2OH, CH(OH-Me, CH2CH2CH2OH, CH2CH(OH)Me, CH(OH)CH2Me or (CH2CH2O)nH; n = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6; X = an anion.
