A granulate for the prolonged release of a larvicide in water produced by incorporation of a larvicide in a matrix, is new. A granulate providing prolonged release of a larvicide in water is produced by: (a) preparing a granular matrix having absorbing, desorbing and porous properties; (b) soaking the matrix in a solution of a larvicide; and (c) drying and removing solvent from the loaded matrix.
