The company E-mail system is coupled with the control of the sorting machine (4) to avoid need of automatic reading of hand-written addressees. Each envelope (1) has an identification e.g. number in digits and bar code, attached, readable by human and machine (2). The sender finds the addressee E-mail address file and inputs the envelope number. When the envelope number is input, the addressee and envelope number are transmitted to the sorting machine, which contains a sort plan. The sorting machine assigns the addressee a specific distribution number. The transmission to the distribution point temporarily indicates the transferred envelope number so when the sorting machine reads the bar code the envelope is sorted to the correct distribution point.
