A method of modifying and/or coloring a surface layer of a molded resin by evenly infiltrating and dispersing into the layer an organic compound which has affinity for the resin and is sublimable. The method comprises introducing into a closable vessel a molded resin and an organic compound which has affinity for the resin and is sublimable and regulating the pressure and temperature inside the vessel to keep the system at a saturated sublimation pressure for the organic compound and thereby enable the vapor of the organic compound to evenly deposit on the surface of the molded resin and infiltrate and disperse into an inner part. A function can be imparted by the modification of a resin surface layer.
