A solid catalyst component for the polymerization of olefins CH2=CHR, in which R is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical having 1-12 carbon atoms, the solid catalyst component including Mg, Ti, halogen and an electron donor selected from beta-substituted glutarates other than diisopropyl beta-methyl glutarate and which are not alpha-substituted. The catalyst component, when used in the polymerization of olefins, and in particular polypropylene, is capable of providing polymers in high yield and with a high isotactic index expressed in terms of high xylene insolubility. |
