This invention provides a method for detecting the presence or amount of a particular fatty acid, in the presence of other fatty acid, comprising the steps of (1) binding the analyte fatty acid by a protein with differential specificity for it over other fatty acid and (2) detection of the complex by any method which will distinguish between bound and unbound fatty acid.
