Process for the manufacture of a reinforcing ply for radial tyres, reinforcing ply and radial tyre

A single cord(3) is gripped by holding and guiding devices and laid down in successively opposing directions to create a zig-zag structure(3a) of closely spaced cords. The structure is then adhered to the uncured rubber layer(4). Independent claims are made for: (1) the reinforcing layer; (2) a radial tire incorporating the reinforcing layer; and (3) a radial tire incorporating the reinforcing layer which is laid down directly onto a rubber layer on a tool core. Preferred Features: A cord(3) laid down directly onto a rubber layer is laid under tension and pressed into the rubber layer.
