PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an emulsion having excellent antioxidant ability, capable of freely controlling the antioxidant ability by changing a chain length and useful for a food, a cosmetic, a medicinal agent, or the like, by using a mixture of specific gallic aid derivatives. SOLUTION: The antioxidant composition anteins a single substance or a mixture of more than two kinds of 4-alkoxy-3,5-dihydroxy benzoic acid derivatives and 3,4-dialkoxy-5-hydroxy benzoic acid derivatives expressed by formulae I and II [R1 is a 4-100C (substituted) alkyl; R2 is H, a metal or a monofunctional cation]. Preferably, as for the emulsion, its antioxidant ability is freely controlled by changing the chain length of R1 without changing an aromatic ring structure other than R1 and R2 in formulae I and II.
