PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition improved in heat resistance, color appearance stability and decomposition stability by bringing a hydrocarbon resin to contain a single ring polyhydric phenol compound and a quinone compound. SOLUTION: This hydrocarbon resin composition is obtained by bringing the objective composition to contain preferably 0.01-3 pts.wt. of (B) at least one species of compounds selected from a single ring polyhydric phenol (e.g. hydroquinone, etc.), and a quinone (e.g. benzoquinone, etc.), to 100 pts.wt. of (A) a hydrocarbon resin (e.g. an aliphatic petroleum resin, etc.). The composition is preferably used for a resin for traffic paints or as hot melt type adhesives. The method for blending the ingredients A with B is to add in a purification or modification process of the ingredient A or add together with other compounding agents such as a plasticizer, filler, pigment, polyolefin, elastomer, wax, and the like when the resin is blended with the other compounding agents.
