PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a chromosome region participating in a glume-opening angle, existing at a position sandwiched between a plurality of genetic markers open P and Ma 13 on the first rice chromosome, capable of changing the glume- opening angle and capable of improving the production efficiency of a hybrid rice seed. SOLUTION: This chromosome region is derived from a rice plant, e.g. a wild rice such as Oryza rufipogon Griff having the maximum glume-opening angle >=4 deg. larger than that of a cultivated rice such as Oryza sativa L when cultivated under the same conditions and exists at a position sandwiched between two genetic markers open P and Ma 13 on the first rice chromosome, two genetic markers RP 322 and G 275 on the second rice chromose or two genetic markers C 1057 and RZ 387 on the seventh rice chromosome. The discrimination of the chromosome region participating in the glume-opening angle is preferably carried out by utilizing two genetic markers open P and Ma 13 on the first chromosome of a rice having the maximum glume-opening angle >=4 deg. larger than that of a cultivated rice.
