PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mass-produce a carbonaceous material such as carbon nano-tube by heating carbon granules through current carrying or micro wave up to the sublimation temperature in an inert gas atmosphere and by making sublimated gas aggregate on the surface of a cooler. SOLUTION: Carbon granules 2 are held in a heating furnace 1 in an inert gas atmosphere. Energizing the carbon granules 2 with power supply equipment 4 through a pair of electrodes 3, 3 generates Joule heat in the carbon granules 2 to form a high temperature region 8 showing 3,400 deg.C as sublimation starting temperature or higher temperature in the carbon granules 2. Gas sublimated from the region 8 exists in a partially buried state in the carbon granules 2 and aggregates on the surface of a rotating cooler 5 cooled from the inner part of a central member 6 through liquid or gas down to a constant outer surface temperature of <=2,500 deg.C to perform vapor growth and to be efficiently collected as a carbonaceous material with a scraper 9. The cooler 5 is preferably made of graphite, a high melting metal such as tungsten, molybdenum or the like, or a high melting alloy.
