PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide water repellency reinforced carbon black realizing a gas diffusion electrode with a long service life having long term stability more excellent than that of the conventional one, to provide a method for reinforcing the water repellency of a gas diffusion electrode using it and to provide a gas diffusion electrode. SOLUTION: As to this water repellency reinforced carbon black, under the condition in which shearing stress is applied on the space between the surface of hydrophobic carbon black and low molecular weight polyphloroethylene, the surface of hydrophobic carbon black is deposited with low molecular weight polyphloroethylene. As to the method for reinforcing the water repellency of a gas diffusion electrode, under the condition in which shearing stress is applied on the space between the surface of a hydrophobic carbon black and low molecular weight polyphloroethylene, the surface of hydrophobic carbon black is deposited with low molecular weight polyphloroethylene, and the obtd. water repellency reinforced carbon black is rubbed against the surface of the gas feeding layer in a gas diffusion electrode and is deposited thereon. As to the gas diffusion electrode, water repellency reinforced carbon black is used as the material. |
