PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high pressure plunger pump to be a high pressure fuel pump in which a change-over solenoid valve is made in a small size, and the loss of a pilot flow rate to exhaust the fuel of the piston of a suction check valve element as a drain flow rate is prevented. SOLUTION: A small back pressure chamber 91 is provided at the upper end of the sliding hole 96 of a suction check valve element 80, and the rod 116 of a small size electromagnetic change-over valve 101 blocks the port 102 of the back pressure chamber 91. As a result, the suction check valve 80 is made possible to maintain the opening position even though it receives the force of a spring 70 and the pressure of a pump chamber 56, the pump discharge amount is made variable, a feed fuel passage 75 is communicated to the suction port 97 of the pump chamber 56 passing through a communication route 76 allowable to communicate to the port 102 of the small back pressure chamber 91, and the small back pressure chamber 91 is communicated by a different pilot passage 41 through the suction port 97 of the pump chamber 56, and a pilot check valve 40. |
