PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hydrophilic composite material capable of keeping good hydrophilic nature over a long period and decreasing washing frequency and useful as a wall material for bathroom, or the like, by specifying the aspect ratio of a metal oxide particle to be used in the uppermost film layer. SOLUTION: The objective composite material having a hydrophilic surface is provided with a substrate and a layer containing one or more kinds of metal oxides to be applied to the surface of the substrate. The uppermost face of the layer contains metal oxide particles having an aspect ratio of 1:5 to 1:3. Preferably, the metal oxide is selected from silica, alumina, zirconia, titania, tin oxide and zinc oxide, one or more kinds of the metal oxides are present on the substrate, a thin film of the metal oxide particles having an aspect ratio of 1:3 to 1:5 is formed on the top surface by sputtering and the aspect ratio is controlled by the flow rate of O2 in sputtering process. |
