PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve catching performance by reducing as much as possible failure to catch a ball through reliable catch even if a ball is caught at the catching side of a thumb insertion portion. SOLUTION: Reinforcing plates 11 and 12 are mounted internally in the catching area and the rear side of the thumb insertion portion 3 of a catching device body having a hand insertion opening 9, the base end 11A of the reinforcing plate 11 on the catching area side is located near a virtual extension line H passing the side 4A on the thumb insertion portion 3 side of a second finger insertion portion 4 or on the thumb insertion portion 3 side, and the base end 12A of the reinforcing plate 12 on the rear side is located nearer the hand insertion opening 9 than the base end 11A of the reinforcing plate 11 on the catching area side.
