PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for automatic transmissions, capable of performing adequate control with good responsiveness in response to driver's deceleration demand. SOLUTION: Deceleration demand judging means 5, 6 for judging the presence or absence of deceleration demand, are provided, and when the deceleration demand judging means judges the deceleration demand to be present, an up-shift operation prohibiting means 3 for prohibiting the up-shift operation of a transmission is provided. When the deceleration demand judging means judges that the driver's deceleration demand exists, from the releasing speed of an accelerator, the deceleration demand judging means allows the up-shift operation prohibiting means 3 to prohibit the up-shift operation of the transmission to prevent the transmission 15 from being up-shifted. Thus, a vehicle is prevented from being carelessly accelerated by up-shift, and thereafter down-shift can be smoothly performed and engine brake by down-shift can be effectively applied. |
