PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for weft insertion of a flat yarn capable of feeding the weft in a state without causing twisting in the flat yarn to a yarn feeding part of a shuttleless loom and inserting the weft, especially an apparatus for the weft insertion of the flat yarn capable of inserting the weft without loosening a fibrous bundle even when a yarn prepared by doubling many carbon fibers is used as the flat yarn. SOLUTION: The characteristic of this apparatus is to install a driving means 2 for positively rotating a package 1 wound with a flat yarn R in the unwinding direction, a housing 6 equipped with a sucking means 14 capable of storing the flat yarn R in the U-shaped state between the package 1 and a yarn feeding part of a shuttleless loom 8 and further a feeding roller 7 for feeding the flat yarn R at a higher peripheral speed than that of the package 1 in the storing direction in an inlet part 6a of the housing 6. The apparatus is composed so that the introduction of the weft yarn into the housing 6 can be performed by a frictional force due to synergistic effects of the torque of the feeding roller 7 with a tensile force by a suction force of the sucking means 14.
