PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject monofilament having excellent (knot) strength and surface smoothness, useful for a fishing line capable of sensitively reflecting a bite by mechanically formulating a polyamide-based polymer with a polyester- based polymer to give a composition and integrally spinning the composition. SOLUTION: This monofilament is integrally spun from a composition obtained by mechanically formulating 100 pts.wt. of a polyamide-based polymer such as nylon 6 with preferably 5-25 pts.wt. of a polyester-based polymer such as a polyethylene terephthalate. Preferably a fishing line is produced from a nylon/polyester-based monofilament. The nylon/polyester-based monofilament is preferably produced by subjecting the formulated composition to melt spinning at 290-305 deg.C, drawing the spun yarn in 3.0-3.6 times draw ratio at 80-90 deg.C and then drawing the yarn in 2.0-2.2 times draw ratio at 200-250 deg.C.
