PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated forming die and the producing method thereof in which the heat crack resistance and the oxidizing resistance can simultaneously be improved. SOLUTION: On the surface of a base material composed of the kind of steel, JIS SKH, SKD or the corresponding material to these, (Al1-x Crx) N film is formed (wherein, x is atomic ratio, 1.0>x >=0.02). To the base material, it is desirable to apply a nitriding treatment. The surface coated forming die provided with both of heat crack resistance and oxidizing resistance, is obtd. with the synergistic effect of the coating and the nitriding treatment.
