PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a producing method of a photocatalytic body having sufficient mechanical strength and the photocatalytic body. SOLUTION: The producing method of the photocatalytia body obtained by carrying a catalytic layer 1 containing titanium oxide and silica on a base material formed to have a bundle 3 of fibers 5 is by impregnating the base material with slurry containing colloidal silica and polyvinyl alcohol and after drying the base material impregnated with the slurry, firing. In the photocatalytic body formed in this way, the ratio of the fiber 5 to the catalytic layer 1 by weight is in a rang from >=(1:0.2) to <=(1:0.8), the catalytic layer 1 covers the surface of the bundle 3 of the fibers 5 and fills up among the fibers 5 constituting the bundle 3 without a gap and the fibers 5 are gathered to be sufficiently narrow in the distance among the fibers 5.
